Navy Seals Defeat Israeli Commandos on “Deadliest Warrior”

In the season finale of Spike TV’s “Deadliest Warrior,” the Navy SEALs defeated Israeli Commandos by a mark of 518- 482. The results are based on 1,000 kills on a computer simulation program after data is compiled and entered. The show sets up fictional battles but tests weapons, using real-life experts.

The SEALs’ deadliest weapon was the long-range M3 Colt, which resulted in 355 kills, while the Israeli Micro Galil had 288 kills in the simulation.

“Overall I like the warrior concept of the Israeli Commandos,” biomedical scientist Geoff Desmoulin said on the broadcast. “They just didn’t bring it on long-range weapons and that made the difference.”

Navy SEAL veteran Rob Roy and Israeli Commando Mike Kanarek had to fire 30 rounds at a slowly moving pig carcass attached to a moving dolly without hitting gel torsos, which represented innocent bystanders. Using his Colt, Roy was able to hit the pig all 30 times, while Kanarek’s Galil didn’t hit the mark on nine of the 30 shots.

But the Israelis’ explosive device was shown to be superior. Semtex, which, was said to have been used to kill Yahya Ayyash, a Hamas bomb-maker responsible for several bus-bombings, was tested against the SEALs’ C4 explosive. Both were detonated in a shack, with the Semtex notching 324 pounds of pressure per square inch, while the C4 had a PSI of 270. Also, the Israeli commandos demonstrated how you could call a cell-phone and detonate an explosive, with no collateral damage to bystanders, while the SEALS showed how a re-breather could be used to go underwater for hours without causing air bubbles and detonate a boat from underwater. This tactic was used to blow up Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega’s yacht, according to the show.

The most graphic portion of the finale and of the season came during a comparison of knives. Roy looked possessed as he used a Recon 1 knife on a gel torso and cut off the head. Kanarek used a Ka-Bar knife, and also went to work on the gel torso. Both men had the fake blood smattered on their shirts. Computer whiz Max Geiger had barbs for each elite fighter after their handy work was done.

“I’m guessing they don’t let you carve the turkey at Thanksgiving,” Geiger said, in reference to Roy.

“He basically turned his belly into jello salad; this guy is done,” Geiger said in reference to Kanarek’s work on the torso.

Roy’s hand-speed was measured at 32 feet per second, while Kanarek’s was measured at 29 feet per second. Kanarek argued that the length of his knife would give him the advantage but it was called a draw, as Geiger, Desmoulin and Dr. Armand Dorian said it was too close to call. Kanarek may have been right because in the computer simulation, the KABAR has 42 kills, while the Recon 1 knife had only 15.

Israeli commando Moti Horenstein squared off against Navy SEAL Colin Palmer in a test of handguns. Each had to shoot out six lights and then take out three terrorists (gel torsos with masks) without hitting any of the hostages. Using a Glock 19, Horenstein had some difficulty shooting the lights, but not the terrorists, and it took him 20.3 seconds, while Palmer completed the task in 13.8 seconds, with his Sig Sauer P226, impressing Desmoulin.

“I don’t think people realize how difficult it is to get that accurate with a handgun at that distance,” Desmoulin said, after examining the shots.

The Sig Sauer resulted in 101 kills with the Glock getting 98 according to the simulation. Also mentioned was the Israeli hand to hand combat method known as krav maga, but it was not tested against the SEALs’ hand to hand combat because humans would have had to fight against each other, which isn’t done on the show. But Horenstein demonstrated on Kanarek in slow-motion and said what would happen.

“He will get this elbow right to the chin, said Horenstein an expert instructor in krav maga. “This chin will break, no problem. The nose will go inside the back of the head. It will kill him right away.”

The SEALs use CQD, or close quarters defense. Palmer said he wasn’t worried about krav maga and would be comfortable fighting anyone.

“If it’s a live or die situation, I’ll be ripping the flesh off somebody’s body with my teeth if I have to,” Palmer said, as cameras came in for a close-up.

Kanarek said the pressure is always on Israeli forces to be the best because they force constant threats and he was diplomatic in the show’s final moments, despite the loss.

“I think there’s a mutual respect here,” he said. We are allies so we’re fighting the same enemy so to me, everybody won. But we’ll get them, next time.”
