The Jewish Week Media Group, including but not limited to www.thejewishweek.com, www.nyblueprint.com, www.jerusalemblueprint.com and www.losangelesblueprint.com (“The Jewish Week,” “us,” “our,” or “we”) is committed to your privacy and the security of the information you provide to us during your visit of the websites operated by The Jewish Week and/or certain affiliates or subsidiaries (collectively, the “Website”). This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains your privacy rights in connection with any of your information that we collect, use, store, and share.  All capitalized terms that are not defined herein shall have those meanings prescribed to them in The Jewish Week’s terms of use for the Website (the “Terms of Use”), of which this Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and made a part of. Consistent with the Terms of Use, by using our Website, you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy, as may be modified from time to time.

Updates

As we continue to develop our Website and take advantage of advances in technology to improve the services we offer, this Privacy Policy likely will change. The Jewish Week reserves the right to modify, alter, or update this Privacy Policy at any time, in its sole discretion. We will notify you of any changes to this Privacy Policy by posting the revised policy on the Privacy Policy page of the Website. You can determine when this Privacy Policy was last updated by referring to the “last updated” date at the end of this page. We encourage you to review our Privacy Policy on a regular basis to stay informed about any changes to the Privacy Policy.  Your continued use of our Website constitutes your agreement to the Privacy Policy and any updates. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not continue using our Website.

The Information We Collect

We receive and store two types of information through the Website: (1) Personally Identifiable Information and (2) Automatic Information. “Personally Identifiable Information” and “Automatic Information” shall collectively be referred to herein as “Information.”

1.      Personally Identifiable Information:

“Personally Identifiable Information” is information that you voluntarily supply to us through certain interactive functions available on the Website or as a result of the Website. Personally Identifiable Information is any information that can be used to identify a specific individual and may include, but is not limited to, name, gender, address, telephone number, email address, interests, age, content, and/or service preferences or other related information.

Personally Identifiable Information is collected when you (i) register for a user account on the Website (“Account”); (ii) request a new username and/or password; (iii) communicate with The Jewish Week or its representatives through or as a result of the Website (including by phone, mail, email, fax, or paper correspondence); (iv) subscribe to newsletters or “special offers” lists; (v) subscribe (for yourself or third persons through a gift subscription) to The Jewish Week print version or for “premium” content on the Website; (vi) enter transactions, sweepstakes, promotions, or contests; or (vii) otherwise provide User-Generated Content at various times and places on or through this Website (such as via blog, chat, email, photo/video upload, calendar, classifieds, social networking, or similar interactive areas of the Website). If you subscribe to the print version of The Jewish Week or “premium” content offered through the Website, we will also collect your credit card account number, expiration date, and related information to allow us or our third party service providers to process such credit card transaction; provided, however, that we delete such credit card information from our secure servers within fifteen (15) days from when it is collected.

The submission of any User-Generated Content is governed by our Terms of Use. Please be aware that any information you post or disclose will become public information and will be available to other users and visitors of our Website. Accordingly, if you choose to submit User-Generated Content, please use discretion. The Jewish Week is not responsible for any information, personal or otherwise, that you submit and does not have any responsibility to publish, takedown, remove, or edit any User-Generated Content. Except as otherwise provided herein and in the Terms of Use, any User-Generated Content you transmit to us (whether or not it contains Personally Identifiable Information) is sent at your own risk and will receive non-confidential treatment.

Except as described above, you may browse the Website without providing any Personally Identifiable Information. However, in certain cases where you choose not to provide us with Personally Identifiable Information, you may not be able to access all or certain areas of this Website or participate in all of its features.

2.      Automatic Information; Tracking and Website Usage:

“Automatic Information” is information that does not reveal your identity but may be used by us and shared with third parties. Automatic Information includes aggregate tracking and site usage information that we gather on an anonymous basis when you access our Website. Some examples of Automatic Information include, but are not limited to, the webpages you view; page impression (i.e. request to load a single webpage of a given Internet website); the number of links you click on within the Website; the date and time of you visit to the Website; demographic information; and your computer’s IP address. When you visit the Website, The Jewish Week and/or its approved third party service providers automatically collect your Automatic Information.

To enhance your experience, we also use “cookies” on our Website. Cookies are small data files that our server places on a visitor’s computer hard drive or device to store the visitor’s preferences and to help us understand how visitors are using our Website. Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us your email address or other personal information unless you choose to provide that information to us by, for example, registering for an Account. Once you choose to provide us with personal information, this information may be linked to the data stored in the cookie. The Jewish Week uses cookies to recognize your computer (but not specifically who is using it), to identify the webpages you click on during your visit to our Website, and to identify the name of the website you visited immediately before visiting our Website; this list is not exhaustive. The Jewish Week’s approved third party service providers may also use cookies for similar purposes.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies.  However, you can modify your browser settings to decline cookies and you can delete existing cookies from your browser. Please be aware that, if you choose to reject cookies, some portions of our Website will not function properly or will not be available to you.

We may aggregate and/or otherwise use the aforementioned Automatic Information for a number of purposes, including, but not limited to, improving our Website’s design, editorial content, service offerings, customer service, and special promotions.

We may associate Automatic Information with your Personally Identifiable Information, in which case, such Automatic Information will be treated as Personally Identifiable Information for purposes of this Privacy Policy.

  4. keeping you informed about the status of news and events pertaining to The Jewish Week and its covered content (including newsletters);

  6. administering the Website and analyzing its usage; and
  7. responding to customer service inquiries.

Others With Whom We Share Your Information

The Jewish Week occasionally shares both Personally Identifiable Information and Automatic Information with other companies, including our affiliates and third parties with whom we have a marketing or business relationship. Additionally, in some instances, other companies may be collecting Information on their own accord. Information is transferred to third parties for the following purposes.

1.      Compliance with Law: We may disclose Information to the appropriate parties in order to comply with applicable laws; respond to governmental inquiries or requests; comply with valid legal process; protect against the rights, privacy, safety, or property of The Jewish Week; permit us to pursue available legal remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain; and to enforce our Terms of Use.

It is The Jewish Week’s policy to require its third-party service providers to hold such information in confidence and not disclose the same with others or use the information for purposes other than to maintain the services they provide to The Jewish Week.

3.      Business Partners: Certain portions of our Website, or websites with which our Website may link to, are operated by business partners with whom we may offer services. If you choose to access these optional services, we may share your Information with those partners. Please note that we do not control the privacy practices of these third party business partners and are not responsible or liable for any third party business partner’s disclosure of your Personally Identifiable Information.

4.      Third Party Cookies and Other Technologies: In addition, we may allow third party service providers, such as advertisers, website statistic gatherers, and others, to use cookies and other technologies to, among other things, serve advertisements, collect statistic about use of our Website, and enable them to record information such as your browser type, IP address, which ads your browser has seen, which site pages you may have been viewing when ads were delivered, your referring URL, your geographic location, and other interaction information (but not your name or address). 5.      Mergers and Other Types of Corporate Transfers: Should The Jewish Week undergo a sale, merger, consolidation, change in control, transfer of substantial assets, reorganization, or liquidation, the Information that The Jewish Week has accumulated will be treated as an asset and, like other business assets, will be subject to transfer to or acquisition by a third party.

Please note that, on occasion, we enter into promotional or marketing arrangements with certain approved third parties whereby we distribute such third party’s materials to our users or readers using our proprietary marketing or customer lists. These parties are not provided with access to these lists or to the Information we collect. See the “Emails” section below for more information.

Security

We take appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative steps that are reasonably designed to maintain the security and accuracy of Personally Identifiable Information we collect, including limiting the number of people who have physical access to our database servers, as well as employing electronic security systems and password protections that guard against unauthorized access. Except as otherwise provided in the Terms of Use, it is prohibited to violate or attempt to violate the security or test the vulnerability of the Website in any manner. Such violations could result in civil or criminal penalties to the extent consistent with applicable law. See the “User Conduct” section of the Terms of Use for further information.

Personally Identifiable Information provided on the Website in connection with online credit card transactions are transmitted through a secure server using Secure Socket Layering (SSL) encryption technology. When the letters "http" in the URL change to "https," the "s" indicates you are in a secure area employing SSL; also, your browser may give you a pop-up message that you're about to enter a secure area. SSL protects your Personally Identifiable Information during data transport. Please note that email is not encrypted and is not considered to be a secure means of transmitting Personally Identifiable Information, including credit card information.

Although we will exercise reasonable care in providing secure transmission of information between your computer and our servers or the servers of third-party service providers we may use, and in storing that information on our systems or on a third-party service provider’s system, no method of transmission over the Internet, or of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot ensure or guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us over the Internet.

Children's Privacy

Protecting children's privacy is important to us. Our Website is a general audience site. We do not collect or maintain information from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our Website is targeted to attract anyone under 13. We also do not correspond with anyone who tells us that they are between the ages of 13 and 18 without their parent's or guardian’s consent, unless he/she is an emancipated minor. Our sweepstakes and similar promotions are restricted to entrants who are at least 18 years old. Please also see the “General” and “User-Generated Content” sections of the Terms of Use for further information.

Under California Civil Code sections 1798.83-1798.84, California residents are entitled to ask us for a notice describing what categories of personal customer information we share with third parties or affiliates for those third parties or affiliates' direct marketing purposes. That notice will identify the categories of information shared and will include a list of the third parties and affiliates with which it was shared, along with their names and addresses. If you are a California resident and would like a copy of this notice, please submit a written request to the following address: The Jewish Week, Inc., Att: Privacy Policy Statement Personal, 1501 Broadway, Suite 505, New York, NY 10036. In accordance with the Terms of Use, our Website may contain links to other websites operated by third parties. Please be aware that our privacy practices may differ from those of third parties and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such third parties or their websites. If you provide information at a third party website, you are subject to the privacy policy of the operator of that website and not The Jewish Week’s Privacy Policy or Terms of Use. Make sure you understand any such third party website's privacy policies before providing personal information at such website(s).
